The Missouri Senate endorsed the establishment of a Special Committee, whether a State created workers compensation insurer changed to study.
Senators gave initial registration on 4 April a Bill to create a five-member Senate to analyze Panel whether Missouri employers mutual insurance co. should be sold, privatized, or restructured.
Under a law of 1993 at a time when many small businesses problems were always beneficial to workers compensation coverage based company created Columbia. The company has flourished to the point that it now has the largest market share among the Missouri workers compensation insurance companies.
A current state audit pointed out that the company benefited from a federal tax exemption and has built up a surplus of more than $160 million. Some lawmakers wondering whether to continue the exemption.
Insurance agents in the State have a hasty reaction to the State examination to avoid legislators.
