Levee.org looking for historical status for Katrina levees damaged

An interest group is bypass that Corps U.S. Army of engineers and go directly to have the National Park Service in the search after two spots, where dams errors added during Hurricane Katrina on the national register of historic places.
Levees.org works since 2010 to win the historic name for two sites, where violations to disastrous flooding contributed, when Katrina hit on August 29, 2005.
Although a Park Service official has the last floor, the Corps was allowed to weigh an opportunity, because it has a website.
But the Corps said that his comments may come until end of may as it consults with Justice Department lawyers.
"It presents a complex legal and political considerations, that lawyers, the Ministry of Justice of United States, Corps and my Office must be fully evaluated by the army" Jo-Ellen Darcy, Assistant Secretary of the army, said in a letter to Louisiana historic preservation officer.
Both sides are the subject of disputes , whether the Corps, which the dikes built, is responsible for water damage. Darcy letter pointed out that the Levees.org nomination of sites for the national registry relies on professionals who involved in the litigation, and is it issues in dispute in the litigation.
Levees.org said it will wait no longer and pointed out that had the Corps of 60 days after receiving the appointment in January its position to make. "Because of the Corps technical comments within the required time frame make available, Levees.org exercise his right to appeal, that is to say, it is plugged directly into the keeper of the National Park Service and request formal listing on the prestigious register ahead" the organization said in a news release.
Application for national register status was a long and complex process, making a 39-page application, which partly as a history of the drainage and flood defence reads protection in New Orleans, and partly like a technical manual. It went through a review actually was rejected by a State body in matters of preservation in December and 6-3. Some Members worried out loud because the sites were repaired and changed since the injury, they no longer qualify for the register.
State conservation officer Pam Breaux overruled the Panel. "Even though the document may not be perfect, we believe that you will continue the meaning of resources and the lessons learned from the event (such as in the nomination) justify with the national register listing process", she said in a document to the Park Service sent.
Levees.org has said he hopes injury the national registry on sites added to have, but it focuses initially on two: a violation of neighborhood, and another on the inner harbor navigation canal, better known as locals of the lower 9th Ward the industrial Canal running in the 17th Street Canal, on the edge of the Lakeview. The Corps has the industrial channel Web site.
Katrina flooded flooding 80 percent of New Orleans and suburban areas also flooded. In addition to 2,000 deaths many due to drowning were blamed on the storm. Tens of thousands of people were for days at the Morial Convention Center and the storm damaged heat without electricity and little food or water Louisiana Superdome, sweltering in late summer stranded.
Levees.org media emerged as a major critic of the Corps on the Internet and in New Orleans, insisting that Katrina more caused disaster due to faulty construction one of the people and was build by Floodwalls and dykes, as a natural.
