Arkansas clarifies definition of small employers for medical questions

Arkansas has made it clear that it will maintain the current legal definition of a small employer as one, the 2 and 50 keeps employees for purposes of the small group health insurance questions.
The Arkansas Insurance Department made the distinction, but that it is an exception from this definition for purposes of the medical loss ratio (MLR) calculations under the patient safety and affordable care Act. The PPACA States that a small employer is one that has less than 100 employees, the Department said.
The Department will allow all insurers use from 1 to 100 employees for the purposes of determining the MLR for small group health insurance.
